FLORIDA REAL ESTATE SALES ASSOCIATE COURSE

Brokerage Offices and Branch Requirements

Section 19 of 31

In real estate, it is common for sales associates to move from one brokerage to another. You are an independent contractor, so you are free to leave if you find a better opportunity. However, because your license is legally tied to your Broker, you can't just walk out the door and start working elsewhere immediately without following the rules.Notifying the State (FREC) - When you leave "Broker A" to join "Broker B," the state needs to know where you are. You must notify the FREC (Florida Real Estate Commission) of your change of employer within 10 days. You cannot just send an email. You must submit the change on the prescribed DBPR form (usually done online now). Until this is processed, you technically cannot practice real estate at the new firm because your license is still linked to the old one or is in "ceased to be in force" status.
