Homestead (The Florida Super-Law). If you own a home and it is your principal residence, Florida law wraps a shield around it. Your home is protected from forced sale to pay off personal debts (like credit cards, medical bills, or personal loans). If you go bankrupt, they cannot take your house.There are size Limits. City: Up to 1/2 acre (inside a municipality)Country: Up to 160 acres (outside a municipality)Even Homestead won't save you from Real Estate Property Taxes (The government always gets paid). Mortgages (If you don't pay the bank, they foreclose). Construction Liens (If you don't pay the contractor who fixed your roof).
