Brokerage Offices and Branch Requirements

Section 21 of 31

Duplicating Records (Breach of Trust): If you photocopy your client files, print out your contact database, or download the company's leads to take with you to the new firm, you are committing a Breach of Trust. Even if you were the one who originally wrote the file, copying it for the purpose of stealing business for a new employer is unethical and illegal.Removing Records (Theft): If you physically take files, contracts, or keys out of the office when you quit, you are committing Theft (Larceny). The Safe Way to Leave is to leave all files behind. You can politely ask your old broker if they will allow you to take your listings (transfer them), but they have every right to say "No" and keep the clients for themselves.
